Is Luxury Cheaper in London? UK vs Paris, Milan & US Prices (2026)

Compare Prices Now →

Short answer: London is more expensive than Paris and Milan, and cheaper than the US — but not by as much as it looks. Across ten brands, UK price tags run 5-9% above France and Italy and 4-12% below the US. And since the UK ended tax-free shopping for tourists in January 2021, the gap to Paris widens once a French VAT refund is counted.

Why London costs more than Paris

Brands set UK prices in pounds a little above their euro prices, and the UK's 20% VAT is included in the tag just as France's is. The real difference for visitors is what happens at the till: in Paris, a non-EU tourist can reclaim roughly 12% of the price after fees. In London, there has been no VAT refund for tourists since January 2021. So on the same bag, Paris typically comes out around 15-20% cheaper than London for a visitor.

Is it cheaper to buy luxury in London than in the US?

Usually, yes. UK tags are lower than US tags for most brands above, and US prices are shown before sales tax, which adds several more percent at the register. For an American already in London, buying there typically beats buying at home — but if Paris or Milan is on the same trip, buy there instead.

Where to shop in London

  • New Bond Street: flagships for most of the brands above within a few minutes' walk.
  • Harrods and Selfridges: department-store concessions, useful for comparing several brands in one visit.
  • Sloane Street: quieter boutiques in Knightsbridge.

Bottom line

  • Visiting Europe: buy in Paris or Milan, not London — higher UK tags and no tourist refund make London the dearer stop.
  • Coming from the US: London is still usually cheaper than home, especially for Bottega Veneta, Prada and Miu Miu.
  • Living in the UK: a trip to Paris can pay for itself on a large purchase, but UK residents bringing goods home face their own customs allowance, so check it first.
